Scrandle Random Mode: Seeds, Safe Mode, Mensa Mode and Gimmicks

Random mode is Scrandle's free-play mode, called Practice until June 2026. Anyone can turn on Safe mode (no alcohol or swearing) or Mensa mode (unique items), and set a seed. The same seed with the same options gives the same set of items, so friends can play an identical game. Supporters can also set difficulty, rating range, locations and a gimmick.

What Random mode is

Random mode is free play: as many Scrandle games as you like, separate from the once-a-day daily. It was called Practice until 24 June 2026, when the game renamed it and added options. It is the place to experiment and train.

Scrandle Random mode options. For everyone: Safe mode, Mensa mode, a shareable seed and Evil Mode. For supporters: difficulty, item rating range, item locations and gimmicks such as low-res, mirrored, obfuscated and price-off.
The same seed with the same options gives everyone the same set of items.

Options for everyone

Option What it does
Safe mode Leaves out items with alcohol or swearing
Mensa mode Serves unique items only, and overrides the other options
Seed Any text you like. The same seed with the same options gives the same items

Evil Mode is set separately, in the game's Options menu, and makes the game harder.

How to use seeds

A seed turns Random mode into a shared challenge.

  1. Agree on a seed with your friends. It can be any text, such as a team name or today's date.
  2. Everyone opens Random mode, sets the same options, and types the seed.
  3. Everyone gets the same set of items, so scores compare fairly.

The game's own description says seeds are useful "for friendly competition", and the options must match exactly or the items will differ. If your chosen options do not match enough items, the game may fill the gaps with random items.

Supporter options

Supporters can shape a random game further:

Option Choices
Difficulty Random, Easy, Medium, Hard, Impossible
Item ratings Random (0 to 100%), Very Nice (80 to 100%), Nice (60 to 80%), Middling (40 to 60%), Bad (20 to 40%), Worse (0 to 20%)
Item locations Random, Europe, United Kingdom, North America, South/Central America, Asia, Oceania
Gimmick None, WEBP, Mirrored, Obfuscated, Price-Off

The gimmicks explained

Price-Off is good practice for the daily, because it trains you to read the price on every card.

Achievements you can earn here

Winning a Random game with Mensa mode on earns Bachelor, and scoring 10 out of 10 with it on earns Master. Winning with Evil Mode on earns See No Evil. The full list is in our Scrandle achievements guide, and our Scrandle tips explain how to use Random mode to train for the daily.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Scrandle seed?

A piece of text you type into Random mode's Seed box. Anyone who enters the same seed with the same options gets the same set of items, which makes it easy to compare scores with friends.

Is there an unlimited Scrandle?

Yes. Random mode at scrandle.com lets you play as many games as you like. It was called Practice mode until June 2026.

What is Mensa mode in Scrandle?

An option that serves unique items, a separate set of scran with its own rating source (@MensaScran), and overrides the other options. Winning with it on earns the Bachelor achievement, and 10 out of 10 earns Master.

What are Scrandle gimmicks?

Supporter options that change how items appear: WEBP shows low-res, low-quality images; Mirrored flips them; Obfuscated hides all text about the item; Price-Off asks you to pick the cheaper item instead of the better one.
